V roce 1941 vyšel v britském odborném periodiku Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society text St. Manna, ve kterém informoval o vydání překladu části nového zákona do romštiny – které Mann inicioval a které vyšlo v roce 1936 v Praze. Úryvek z textu zachycuje zprávu o Mannově spolupráci s Antonínem Danielem a dalšími rodilými mluvčími na tomto překladu všech 28 kapitol Skutků apoštolských; obsahuje i popis domku Danielových v oslavanské romské kolonii. 
„My helper, Antonin Daniel, lived with his parents in a little Gypsy colony on the outskirts of Oslavany, a mining village in South Moravia. The Gypsies had built their tiny houses in a straggly double row into the depths of a sandpit which, they said, sheltered them from the cold winds. Daniel's father was an engine-minder at the power station near by, and earned 1400 kc (about £10) a month. He was a poshrom, while his wife, a well-groomed woman in a spotless white apron, as I saw her, was a full-blooded Gypsy, who occasionally went round the neighbouring villages selling cloth-lengths. Daniel's sister, a real Kali (POZN: v romském jazyce Kaľi znamená „tmavá, černá“), was a smart young girl of eighteen, dressed in European clothes, whose bracelets and earrings gave her a touch of oriental ' flash ' which betrayed her origin.
Old Daniel, the father, had built his tiny home with his own hands, and had glazed and whitewashed it. It was easily the tidiest in the row, and contained one small parlour-bedroom, where father and mother slept at night, a still tinier kitchen, and an annex for the girl. …
Half-way through the translation of Acts Antonin Daniel gave out. He flatly refused to go on after chapter 14, and I reluctantly had to find another helper in the Moravian Gypsy colony near the Brno Aerodrome. Here the Gypsies struck me as being less pure than those of Oslavany, and their dialect was slightly different. However, amid the squeals of her three children, I managed to get the text of the remainder of Acts from a Gypsy woman who was expecting her fourth. The text was finished the day before the child was born. Longere this I had been urged to stand godfather to the infant when it arrived.
